Senior Stars: Amelia
This is Amelia. Amelia's hobbies include swimming, reading, scuba diving, kayaking and working out. She plans on attending Penn State Behrend to pursue her degree in chemistry. After obtaining her degree she plans on applying to medical school. Amelia feels that God has called her to reach out to those within her community and world that are in need of healing and experiencing God's love through the actions of those called to serve Him. She looks forward to starting the next chapter in her journey through life! Read on for more on this amazing Senior Star!
Amelia is currently a senior attending Abeka Academy out of Pensacola, Florida. She and her brother have been homeschooled through Abeka since first grade. She is scheduled to graduate in May of 2020 with a 4.0 GPA. Upon graduation she will be joining her brother to attend Penn State Behrend in the fall of 2020 in order to pursue her degree in chemistry. Once she completes her degree, Amelia hopes to apply to medical school in order to pursue a career as an OBGYN.
Amelia believes that the greatest calling for her life is to serve others. Pursuing a career in the medical field will allow her to share her God-given gifts with others and allow her to volunteer with local medical organizations. She believes that she can make a positive difference in the lives of people whom God places in her care.
Amelia comes from such a thoughtful family. I am sure that caring for others is something that is deeply part of who she is. I think she is going to have such a bright future. Friends - if you're someone who prays - join me in praying for Amelia's future! I'm praying that she can hear the Lord's voice and feels clarity as she pursues each step of the long journey of becoming a doctor.
Volunteering, Hobbies, and Work:
Amelia’s hobbies include competitive swimming, reading, scuba diving and kayaking. Amelia volunteers at the Central PA Humane Society where she adopted her best buddy, a puppy named Cooper!
She has worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA for the last three years. Working as a lifeguard allows her to teach swim lessons to families within her community. Amelia enjoys all types of music and loves to attend concerts and plays with her family.
Thriving & Sharing:
Having lived in three states since starting school, Amelia has had the opportunity to meet incredible people in many parts of the country. She has been blessed with friends that she has made through various camps, churches and extracurricular activities. Never one to shy away from a good conversation, Amelia knows quite a bit of little-known history from the places she has lived. For example, through volunteering, she has gotten to know lots of residents who share multi-generational town histories with her while making lots of new memories with Amelia!
Amelia has participated in classes in fencing, pottery, painting, archery, rock wall climbing, scuba diving and music. Amelia thrives in an environment that offers new challenges and exciting activities.
Ending Our Session:
I usually try to end sessions with the question, "Is there anything else that you were thinking of?" This allows me to have a minute to breathe and to run through my list of shots and be sure that I captured all of the close-up head shots and a good mix of vertically and horizontal composed shots. But, more importantly it gives my clients a moment to think about any other photos that they'd like. Typically this is a chance to get a photo of the graduate with their parents or any other special shots. Our Senior Star requested a photo of her with her puppy, Cooper, so she could take it with her to college! Her dad ran to get the dog and we got a few of them together! This was a really fun ending to our session.
