Elegant Family Session

This session happened in late 2018 but I haven't had a chance to write about it until now. This is one of my favorites because I have had the honor of photographing this family for years!  I love getting to see their family grow and their children go through new stages of childhood.

This session was at Baker Mansion in Altoona. Baker Mansion is a great place in all seasons because the warm brick tones make everyone's skin look gorgeous. I always bring my lights so no matter the weather, I can get sun-kissed light streaming into the space - just like I did here!

Big Kids & Portraits:

The older siblings were so ready to pose together. They were ready for this! So I grabbed a few shots of them hanging out at the columns right at the beginning because they were having fun together. This part was easy!

After that, I did portraits of each child separately. We worked quickly because even though the lights can make everyone look warm, it was chilly! This is when I usually require mom and dad's help because they know what makes the best giggles for their little ones for that particular week. I just love these portraits!

Ending on a Group Note:

For lots of sessions with children, the kids get to a point where they're basically finished with portraits and can't do any more, but sometimes we can get one more fun shot. They're more relaxed at this point because their individual portraits are finished, so sometimes I'll try to get group shots of everyone walking away or a fun sibling photo. It really depends on how everyone is doing at the end, but sometimes we get great shots that totally work! We can end on a fun note and bring everyone back together. It's important for the photographer and parents to check in with each other and to read everyone's body language before trying to do the last photo like this, but it's a fun way to end!

What am I about?

My business is about providing art opportunities in the Altoona community as well as portraiture photography work. As a creative person, I like to dabble in other areas that allow me to bear witness to others' lives and explore what brings us all together.
